Close to Home: The Value of Localization in Fighting Financial Crime
The speed of onboarding a client, releasing a payment, authorizing a loan and providing key banking services is critical to a financial institution’s competitiveness and bottom line. In this context, being able to conduct proper, meaningful due diligence checks is vital.
In achieving this, local knowledge and sources increase the likelihood of finding more – and deeper – information about current and future clients. This is especially true in two key areas of financial-crime mitigation, which we consider in this short report (a collaboration between Chartis and SGR Compliance): performing adverse media checks and identifying politically exposed persons (PEPs).
